A95X F4 It is the Android TV-Box of which we present today its analysis or review. Without a doubt, this will be one of the most popular devices on the market for those who are looking for something cheap, powerful and do not need certificates for streaming.

The new A95X F4 has the new SoC Amlogic S905X4 that allows you to move Android without problems, a hardware much superior to the Xiaomi Mi Box for example and that has support for the new one codec AV1. This TV-Box has an operating system Android 10, includes a remote control and some striking colored LEDs. This hardware, as we say, is not intended for paid streaming systems, but we do have much more freedom to install and manage apps of all kinds.

Let’s see in our review how the A95X F4 and what it offers us compared to its current rivals.

  • A95X F4 it’s purchasable Geekbuying in all its versions, 40 € for 2 / 16GB coupon 5AQZA25N, 46,99 € for 4 / 32GB coupon 5AQZ6MCM, 49,50€ for 4 / 64GB coupon 5AQZ2RZD and 57,70 € for 4 / 128GB coupon 5AQYXTCV.

El Android TV-Box A95X F4 It comes in a cardboard box with the image of the product in the upper area and little information about its functions. Inside we find the TV-Box, remote control, HDMI cable, 5V 2A charger and a first steps manual.

It is A95X F4 It has a hexagonal design, on the sides we have a 10/100 Ethernet connector, USB 2.0, AV jack, HDMI 2.1, SPDIF, power connector, a USB 3.0 and reader microSD to expand internal storage. We also have IR remote control fairly basic that you may not want to switch to a wireless PC mouse to handle it more comfortably with a pointer.

This TV-Box has a chip Wifi aC + Bluetooth 4.2 (RTL8822CS) that has an internal Wi-Fi antenna. The passive cooling system is very basic. On one side it has a reset button to reboot the system if it suffers a software catastrophe and be able to reset it.

  • Remote control: IR control / Compatible with keyboard and mouse / Cetusplay control app.

Environment and user experience

We turn on the A95X F4 and it starts automatically, after a few seconds we get to the new installed launcher which is based on rows with different shortcuts. In general, this launcher is quite uncomfortable and we can change it for another that we like more from Google Play. Performance is good, we can move smoothly and quickly between menus. Regrettably we do not have navigation bars or notification area.

  • Launcher: If we can change the launcher / Android UI it renders to 1080p.
  • Multitasking and access: Multitasking NOT available / Notifications not available.
  • Languages and app store: Spanish and all international Android languages / Google Play app store.

We check the system data and the options it includes in terms of root, we also observe what ignition systems this device allows us. This TV-Box has updates via OTA to correct possible bugs, at least for now.

  • On and off: Sleep mode / Power off settings available.
  • Version and root: Android 10 (32 bit) / NO Root  / NO selector Root / CPU r2p0 (S905X4) / Model ohm.
  • Medium: Support by OTA / NO support web.

Network, storage, RAM and ports

The TV-Box A95X F4 has memory 4GB de RAM and for your storage we have 32 GB eMMC that we can expand with a USB memory. It has a USB 3.0 port to connect external drives (read only) or peripherals and we also have another extra USB 2.0. In the network section we find a wireless adapter Wifi ac + Bluetooth 4.2 that as we can see in the tests the results are quite good, the network connector is only Ethernet 10/100, a shame. The internal memory is not the fastest but luckily it doesn’t slow down much.

  • Storage: Total 32GB – Free 27 GB eMMC / SI expandable by USB or SD.
  • RAM: Total 4 GB – Free 3 GB / DDR3.
  • Network performance: Correct speed with internal antenna Wifi / Scope 40 dBm, good / Bluetooth OK.
  • Ports: USB 3.0 OTG / On external USB drives it is only possible to read data.
  • We recommend reading our Tutorial on SAMBA Networks in Android to reproduce or serve files in our local network.

Power and performance

In the performance section the A95X F4 has the SoC Amlogic S905X4 Quad Core con procesadores ARM Cortex-A55 limited to 1.8GHz, in the graphic section it has a GPU Mali-G31 MP2 mid-range. This SoC is an improvement on the previous S905X2 and is very similar to the previous S905X3. As the results show we have a good performance Due to the hardware set and the performance of this new AMLogic SoC, it is equaled against the new Googlecast TV and far surpasses the Xiaomi Mi Box, which is already somewhat outdated in comparison.

In section games we can run PUBG in medium / low quality and also cloud gaming services like NVIDIA GForce Now or Google Stadia using the APK to install it. In section emulators We can run a maximum of some Wii titles, but we will not have problems with 2D games from classic consoles with emulators such as Retroarch or from KODI, the EmuELEC system cannot be executed, since it is not compatible yet.

This SoC S905X4 from A95X F4 It is made in 12nm, has a very low consumption, the cooling system works perfectly and the temperatures are low in normal use. The SoC perfectly manages the speeds so as not to overheat.

  • Thermal: Min. 62ºC / In use 70ºC / Max. 80ºC / Maintains performance up to 85% / Surface heating / 0db of noise.
  • Consumption: Off 0.9W / Min. 3W / In use 3.5W / Max. 5W.

Playback test

In the video playback section the A95X F4 thanks to its VPU it is compatible with modern video formats such as h.265 o  VP9 up to one 4K native resolution @ 60fps HDR, if it supports the recent codec AV1 although for now it has a testimonial use. We have few video quality settings and no automatic refresh change. We have support HDR to get a better image of some content.

We can use widgets like code The PLEX without the slightest problem installing them directly from the Google Play store. As for audio we can reproduce sound DD and DTS up to 5.1 through its HDMI port, plus 5.1 through SPDIF and stereo through the AV jack.

Streaming services

We passed several tests on the streaming services to see how popular services work. The A95X F4 US presents the classic configuration without certificates those that limit us in quality in various services. We can use it with many of these services, but in basic quality.

  • DRM: Google Widevine L3.
  • Audio / Video certificates: No.

test streaming results

  • Multichannel audio only available via HDMI connection in streaming services, via SPDIF only in stereo.

How we have checked the new A95X F4 its biggest attraction is the SoC Amlogic S905X4, without a doubt a chip with good performance that allows us to run any app smoothly. The included IR remote control is very basic and we may have to opt for another control if we want to get more usability.

Regarding connectivity the A95X F4 integrates an adapter Wifi aC quite efficient, we also have connectivity USB 3.0, another extra USB 2.0 and unfortunately only 10/100 Ethernet. As an operating system we have Android 10 but we miss the root permissions to be able to use AFR or other advantages of this type of permissions, surely we will soon have some custom firmware to solve this issue, this will be a very popular box.

A valid hardware to reproduce our content in quality 4K HDR. We can also use other apps as players IPTV, PLEX The code to view local content. We have the classic limitations of Amlogic SoCs such as the lack of image quality control or automatic refresh change.

We can say that the A95X F4 are a TV-Box acceptable for its power and priceIf we are not interested in streaming payment services and we want more flexibility for little money, it is possibly one of the best options at the moment.
